After a customer suggested this book to us I bought it wondering why she was so excited about it. The first time I read it I had tears in my eyes. It is warm and inviting as it describes the home birth of little Jack's brother, the fourth child of the family. It is almost exactly the story of our five homebirths - it being dark and cold, the wood stove going, the family bed they all climb into after the birth, the loving midwife, the dog.
We read this book over and over to help our children prepare for the birth of their sibling. After giving birth both of our daughters went and got me a drink without anybody asking them, because the mother in the book wants a drink, explaining that having a baby is thirsty work.
