Didymos Baby Slings
Didymos Wraparound Sling Ordering Question and Answers -  We realize that purchasing a Didymos is a sizable investment.  Therefore, we try to provide as much information as possible to help you in your decision.

Q:  How long will it take to receive my sling?
A:  We have invested a significant amount of money so that we can provide you with a large selection of Didymos in-stock in Utah, USA.  We usually mail out orders the same business day they are received especially if you order by 12:00 noon mountain time.  We always try to mail  in-stock orders out by the next business day.  You have choice of shipping methods.  The most popular option is Priority Mail which includes delivery confirmation.  You can also choose from Express Mail, Parcel Post, and UPS options.  We will special order a sling we do not carry right away.  However, our experience with ordering Didymos from the manufacturer in Germany is that orders take from 10 days to 2 months to arrive with the average wait being about 4 weeks.  The time difference seems to depend on how the mail is doing and whether or not customs delays the shipment.  After we receive the sling, we will immediately ship it out to you by your chosen shipping method.  Remember this time frame when special ordering slings we do not stock.
Q:  Will I save money by ordering directly from Didymos?
A:
We recently did an exchange for a lady who originally purchased her sling direct from Didymos.  She paid 102.50 Euro plus 33 Euro shipping for a red indio 5.  With an exchange rate of 1.20 (It was recently 1.25) plus the 3%  fee most credit cards charge for a foreign transaction the total she paid was $ 166.67.  She waited 3 weeks to receive the sling.  Our price for this sling is $126.00 with an average Priority Mail shipping charge of $8.00 = $134.00 with a 2-3 day wait.  Also consider if you want to exchange or return, you have the wait and shipping costs back to Germany.
Q: What are the washing instructions for Didymos Slings?
A:   All Didymos tie-on  Slings can be machine washed on warm with mild detergent used sparingly.  Avoid high temperatures and use water softener if you have hard water.  Do not spin wool/cotton blends.  Any detergent residue or mineral accumulations influence the fabric negatively and might shorten the life and stretch ability of the fabric.
Q:  Should I wash my sling before wearing it?
A:  There is no need to wash your sling before wearing it because Didymos are manufactured without textile glaze or other harmful chemicals.
Q: What can I do if the fabric is a little stiff?
A: One of our valued customers let us know that ironing her sling with a steam iron made a huge difference. It turned out to be soft and cuddly.
Q:  Why is my natural colored Didymos lighter than in the pictures?
A:  Natural color grown cotton slings are initially a bit pale but receive there final color after the first wash.
Q:  Why are Didymos slings expensive?
A:  The main reason is because the Didymos wraparound sling  is a finely crafted organic textile manufactured in responsible factories which are free from human exploitation.  Therefore, the wholesale price of Didymos is not cheap, workers are paid well in Germany.  Add to that high importing costs including:  a weak dollar to the euro, high shipping costs from Germany, and high duties on textile imports.  We try to keep our overhead costs as low as possible.  Our markup percentage on a Didymos sling is  much less than the typical retail markup on  similar  products.
QWhy are there so many sizes of Didymos?
A:  Every person is built differently and has their own preferences. The sizing insures you and your baby will be successful during this crucial bonding time. Some don't mind long pieces of fabric to wrap around and tie again, while others do. Depending on what different holds you would like to be able to do, you need to choose the size that will work for your choices. It is best to go by the largest person wanting to carry the baby. Smaller people can also wear a larger sling by simply tying the unused fabric around your waist again to get it out of the way. I always suggest the main person carrying the baby should get to choose the size, everybody else still has plenty of options. We do encourage you to call if you are not sure.
Q: When can I start using different positions?
A: There is not a certain time or age, babies develop differently and one answer doesn't fit all. You as mother or father will notice when your infant doesn't enjoy the cradle carry anymore. Try the Wrap'n'Cross Carry or the Cross Carry. (Variation 3 is great, only I tie it in the front for better comfort). Support the head of your baby by pulling the fabric over the baby's head.
Q: How long can I carry my baby in a Didymos?
A: Trust your feeling and watch your baby. As long as both of you are content - you can carry your baby. I carry my newborns 8-12 hours a day.
Q: How do I learn to tie the Didymos?
A: Do not lose your patience, although this fabric sling might look intimidating when you first take it out of the box. After a few practice runs you will feel very comfortable tying it. It might not be as self explanatory as most over one shoulder slings, however, it is well worth the time you invest in learning the "secret" of the double knot. Your back will be forever grateful you learned. With some practice you can turn this specially woven piece of fabric into the most helpful, comfortable, and flexible baby carrier possible. Didymos slings come with excellent detailed instructions and pictures to explain every step of the different tying methods. We are also there to help with years of experience and still counting.  I grew up with many wraparound slings in Germany and got my first experiences wearing my nephews (nieces are scarce in my family) many years ago.
Q: Can I use the sling in the winter?
A: Of course, your baby will be snuggled and warm in the sling, especially under your coat. Didymos wool/cotton blends are great for colder climates.
Q: How many years can I carry my child in a wraparound sling?
A: The manufacturers recommend 0-3 years. I have found as long as you can carry your child and it is not too heavy, go for it. I use it with my 4 year old on occasion.
Q: Can I use a Didymos wraparound carrier with a baby or child with disabilities?
A: A Didymos will certainly work. You will have to experiment which of the positions works best, just like everybody has to when first starting to use the Didymos. Some of the holds, like the Kangaroo Carry, might not be safe enough as a baby has to be able to snuggle right up to your body in it.
Q:  How well does a Didymos work for twins?
A: Being a twin myself, this is an interesting question for me. Didymos means twins in Greek and the company got started by a mother who had twins. A larger sling will let you carry both babies at the same time one on  your back in the Wrap-n-Cross Carry and one in the front in the Cross Carry. You can also experiment in tying the sling in two loops for the cradle carry.  We suggest getting 2 slings in smaller size rather than one large size. We realize the cost and offer twin discounts. Using two separate tie-on slings will give you more options in wearing your children like carrying both in the Cross Carry in the front and one on your back in the Rucksack Carry.  It also allows you to have another caretaker carry a twin whenever possible.
. Q: How long will the fabric be strong and durable?
A: With proper care, your Didymos will last longer than you have kids to put in it. Thin fabric slings tend to crease at the same place and start tearing after just one or maybe two children.  You can get years out of a Didymos wraparound sling.
